Intent - What are we trying to achieve?

At YFPS, our intent is to provide a high-quality computing education that empowers all pupils to become confident, creative, and responsible digital citizens.

Computing equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. It has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. At its core is computer science, where pupils learn the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to apply this knowledge through programming. Building on this foundation, pupils use information technology to create programs, systems, and content. Our curriculum also ensures pupils become digitally literate—able to use, express themselves through, and develop ideas using ICT—at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

Implementation - How will we achieve this?

At YFPS, we follow the TeachComputing.org scheme of work, supported by our own progression of learning document to ensure detailed and coherent coverage across year groups. We recognise the importance of building on prior knowledge, and our progression framework enables teachers to develop each child’s computing skills year on year.

Computing is taught both discretely and through cross-curricular links, allowing pupils to apply their digital skills in meaningful contexts. This approach deepens their understanding and enriches their learning across subjects.

Impact - What difference will this make?

Our computing curriculum will enable children to:

    • become confident users of digital devices
    • develop skills that they can apply to future jobs
    • be responsible internet users
    • be aware of online safety issues and how to keep themselves safe online

    Internet Safety

At YFPS, we take internet safety extremely seriously. We have an Internet Policy that provides guidance for teachers and children about how to use the internet safely.  E-Safety is continually taught throughout the year via picture books, videos, exploration of scenarios and on Safer Internet Day. In addition, we support parents with their own knowledge and understanding of e-safety by uploading weekly top-tips through the National College.
