    Physical Education (PE) at Yealmpstone Farm Primary School

    Intent – What are we aiming for?

    At Yealmpstone Farm, our PE curriculum develops fundamental movement skills, agility, balance, and coordination through a broad and inclusive program using the Cambridgeshire Scheme. We aim to:

    • Foster social cooperation, positive attitudes, and a sense of personal best, ensuring every child feels included and proud of their achievements.
    • Provide equal opportunities, regardless of background or ability, so children can participate in a range of traditional and non-traditional sports.
    • Promote physical health and mental well-being, helping children build resilience and life skills like teamwork, determination, and respect.

    Implementation – How do we achieve this?

    We provide at least two hours of high-quality PE each week, delivered through:

    1. Core PE Lessons – Using the Cambridgeshire Scheme, pupils engage in gymnastics, dance, athletics, and invasion games.
    2. Skill Development – The second lesson each week deepens learning, embedding key techniques and applying them in game situations.
    3. Active Lifestyles & Well-being
      • Our Platinum School Games Mark reflects our commitment to daily healthy habits.
      • Annual Health & Well-being Week includes workshops on nutrition, mindfulness, yoga, plus activities such as archery, fencing, bike rides, inter-school competitions, and a visit from an Olympic athlete.

    Leadership & Partnerships

    • Plymouth School Sports Partnership – We provide teachers with annual CPD and expert-led termly lesson observations, ensuring high-quality instruction.
    • Sports Council & Prefects – Pupils lead peer-level PE, giving feedback, organizing activities, and ensuring break and lunchtimes remain active and enjoyable.

    Impact – What difference does this make?

    • Pupil Voice & Sports Council – Children regularly contribute ideas, influencing how PE develops in school.
    • Activity Tracking – Termly monitoring helps identify less-active pupils, leading to tailored interventions, Change4Life clubs, and targeted talent pathways.
    • Quality Assurance – Staff confidence in PE delivery has increased through ongoing CPD and partnership support, reflected in teacher feedback and lesson evaluations.
    • Assessment & Progression – Using the Cambridgeshire Scheme’s skill progression framework, lessons are adapted based on assessment data to ensure every pupil progresses at an appropriate level.
